Frequently Asked Questions

Who is your typical client?

Our clients are small business owners, Australia/American expats, and other individuals and families.

Our clients have household incomes of $100,000 or more and a net worth of $200,000 or more. They are intelligent people who wish to:

  • Plan ahead

  • Use email, Internet and other modern communication strategies

  • Engage a financial planning professional in order to concentrate their time in their own areas of expertise and interest

  • They expect us to hold them accountable to their financial goals.
What services do you typically provide to your clients?

We have clients who use us purely for investment management, for financial planning or for insurance. Most of our investment management clients are also financial planning clients.

Do you sell any product, receive commissions or get referral fees?

We receive no commissions on any financial planning or investment management related service. For the convenience of our clients, we offer life and disability insurance. These are two products for which commissions are paid. Under no circumstances do we accept referral fees.

Is there a cost for the first meeting?

No, our 45 minute, introductory meeting is complimentary. You have an opportunity to evaluate us and we have a chance to determine whether or not we can be of service to you. If, however, the purpose of the meeting is to render advice on a specific issue, we charge for our time at our normal hourly rate.

Do we need to meet in person?

No. By design, Arete Wealth Strategists was built to be paperless, cloud-based and location independent1. We frequently host client meetings over the web and host other web-based events that remote clients may attend.

1 Arete Wealth Strategists may offer investment advisory services in the State of California and other jurisdictions where exempted from registration. This is not an offer for services in any jurisdiction in which the firm is not either registered or exempted.

I have a ton of credit card debt and am having difficulty keeping up my monthly payments, can you help?

If you are struggling to keep up on your monthly payments, then you do not need a financial planner, you need a credit counselor. Start by contacting the National Foundation of Credit Counseling, and see if a Debt Management Program might be a good fit for you.  They have trained counselors in your area who can help assess your situation and help guide you through credit counseling, foreclosure, and bankruptcy.

What does Arete Wealth Strategists really do for me?

In essence, we are your partner and coach, advising you so that you can achieve your financial and life goals. We will help you dream, grow, protect, enjoy, and transfer your wealth. Our goal is to help you gain clarity about what you want and how to get it. We work with you to set goals, develop strategies to achieve them and implement the strategies, monitoring your progress and making adjustments when necessary.

What other services do you provide?

Our primary service offerings are financial planning, investment management and Life/Disability insurance. For our business owner clients, we also offer business coaching.

Whom will I work with?

You will work directly with our principal, Ashley Murphy, CFP®
